Computer Names

I name my computers after stars. My laptop (pretty powerful) is Arcturus and my desktop (low-end hardware) is Proxima

Lol... I'm always surprised how "creative" the users of LQ are to make such threads. ;P

However, my computers answer to the names of "tux" and "tux-netbook". Even my Windows os on my main machine is called that since my router would refuse to give me my IP... ^^

Desktop is called Ghostdawg
Netbook is called Ghostdawg-Netty
Mac Mini is called Ghostdawg-Mini

I chose the Ghostdawg name from the movie, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

All my computer names are technical; my server is srv01, router is rtr001, my laptop is ltp01, and then I have my other computers, which I haven't used in a while, so I forget those ones.

Mine changes everytime I reinstall, but my favourite one is cargoloader@sulaco (from the 'Aliens' movie).

To add to my previous post, my N900 is cmd01, and the rest of my mobile(-ish) devices' hostnames are coded in binary.... I know, I'm a geek

Funny, I thought the theme for my naming scheme would have been used by someone else already. Greek mythology (primarily)

Desktop: Deimos
An old, retired desktop: Phobos
Laptop: Hermes
My old file server: Alexandria
My current file server: Scribe

I also used to mess around with names based on Battletech: Timberwolf, Atlas, Jenner, Stalker, etc.

Most of us use network address translation (NAT) inside our ISP modem and router. We use an RFC private-network IP address which does not get routed on the public internet.

@SaintDanBert: Notably, I do not own the router that I normally use. Outside of the not-mine router where I live, I just use Wi-Fi at libraries and coffee shops.
Until I get the chance to buy my own router and select my own ISP, I'm stuck with less-than-optimal privacy.
