Checking MD5sum from windows
Hello,
I just finished downloading Xubuntu 6.06, and I need to check the MD5sum from windows. Unfortunately, 3/4 of the search results are crap, and the last ones are programs that don't work, or require a .md5 file, which I don't have. I remember an application that you just enter in the name of the ISO, and it gives you the MD5sum. Does anyone know where I can download it? If not, does anyone know another good MD5sum checker? Thanks, Joro. EDIT: Forgot to mention: I do have the proper MD5sum value, though, it's 20d5b0e83e4a701d76739347520b133e |
|
did you ever get it going?
|
Well, I downloaded it and installed it, and when I tried running the program, nothing happened. I dragged+dropped the ISO file on it, nothing happened, nothing's registering in the Ctrl+Alt+Delete summary.
Should I be seeing something? Am I doing this wrong? |
When I first used Linux (about 6 years ago), I used md5summer to check ISO. Now, I use Bittorrent to download ISO. Bittorrent makes it easier to download ISO because it checks data coming in and it checks the whole file after it is done, so you do not need to use a md5sum utility.

Is it all that necessary to check the MD5sum to begin with? What are the odds it messed up?
And does Xubuntu contain a checker that I can use to see if the ISO is alright? |
Ah, nevermind, thanks for the help anyways guys, I've found an application that'll do it. It was the first one I tried, the one I mentioned in the OP.
I'll upload it to my site later if anyone wants it. EDIT: Actually, here's the direct link http://downloads.activestate.com/con...ows/md5sum.exe |
The reason you want to check the md5sum is that if its off, your disc may work and even install, but your OS may have problems. I never burn a disc till I have checked the sum. As far as the program goes-it took a while for me, and I think that was because windows doesn't really like iso's in general.
