CD-RW recognized as CD-ROM

Hello. I am using Windows 98 on my Dell PII 350. I recently bought a used Hewlett Packard CD-RW drive. It worked - half. It is only recognized as a cd-rom though, and can't write.

P.S. It's an old drive - march 2000 manufactured date.

edit your /etc/fstab and remove "ro" thus:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 blah,blah,blah,ro 0 0
to
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 blah,blah,blah 0 0

What does dmesg |grep CD say?
BTW, the ro in fstab won't make a difference as the drive isn't mounted when you burn a disk.

Hehe, I just realized he said he's using win98. You need drivers. Unless they came with the drive, google for them. Or are you using puppy linux on this like your profile says?
