CD-ROM drives don't auto-detect (sometimes)
I installed a CD-RW drive, and now somteimes my computer doesn't find EITHER of my CD drives. I have to COLD BOOT to get the computer to find them again. I am sure the problem is in my BIOS. I can tell when it is going to happen as soon as I turn on the computer because the light on the CD-RW drive doesn't flicker. It doesn't matter which one is set as master and which is slave. My BIOS is set on auto-detect for both drives.

Have you tried flashing your BIOS with the latest offering on your motherboard manufacturer's web site?

I never flashed a BIOS before, and I don't really like the idea. I hate to see what would happen if I screw up. Does anyone know how to set up a CD-ROM drive without having to auto-detect it. I want to try that first. The problem might be the drive. I had a similar problem on an older computer with a different BIOS, but they were also different drives.
