I started with great pain to learn linux becuase it was difficult to even install some packages. but slowly i liked in the administration field of linux. How are the job offers for this field? I really have no idea about it. Do u need the programming skills for this? I am working in Bangalore. i want to switch over to administration. Any suggestions please?

Sorry if i asked this question in wrong place.

Thanks.

i've been trying to get a job, what i find is this:

Linux falls under Information Technology. Most info tech postions want people who dont have to be trained. most positions i see in IT areas want like 4-10 years of prior experience.

i dont really see much "Linux" per-say but i see a lot of Unix server admin, network admin, database admin (mostly Oracle), and a lot of Solaris. i've been using Linux since RH7.1 came out (no clue how long ago hat was...2 years maybe???) and i still learn something new everyday that is supposed to be common knowledge to a well groomed IT guy.

i would actually recommend trying to go with a BSD or Solaris after you get a lot of Linux knowlegde. What i mean by that is, you should be fully capable of using everything without using X (kde and gnome) because most system administrator work, i would imagine, is done over ssh withough any fancy GUIs (i cheat with webmin on my systems when it comes to MySQL).

check out my resume.....it hasnt even gottem me an interview yet. there is a lot of hard competition out (or maybe my resume just plain old SUCKS...)
