Can't put my laptop on stand by

I just reformatted my hard drive and have had to re-install all my hardware devices again. This wasn't much of an issue until I realized that I can't put my computer on stand-by at all. It won't go into stand by when I close the lap-top, and when I go to the shut down menu, stand-by is fuzzed out and clearly disabled. I have a dell inspiron 600m any help is appreciated.

You may need to update your video drivers. I don't know how Linux does things (I'm new to Linux), but with Windows, it all comes down to the video driver, and its compatibility with your hardware.

What're the specs on that machine?

got it

I dunno the specs, but it definitely was the video card! thanks a lot, I went to dell.com and downloaded the software to run the video card again, and now my comp is running smoother than ever. Especially because I got rid of all the damn add software that dell included originally.

Yeah, don't know what it is with these OEM manufacturers putting all the vaporware on computers these days. Anyway... glad to be able to help.
