Hi folks,

What language is used to build Business Objects and Crystal Report. Any equivalent on Open Source?

TIA

Doesnt Crystal use the .NET framework? Crystal is one of the reasons I am still having to use Windows on one machine, although a lot of what you can do in Crystal you can use SQL for.

Hi scoops98,

I haven't had much experience on BO, CR and UBS. I have been searching around for their related information. A folk, using them for some times, told me that they are written with C++ . The "sql" generation and interface are pretty straight forward also the measures and dimensions. The only real difficult part is the page layout as he said.

Previously I thought they are written with java or Unified Modeling Language (UML) together with OPEN Process Framework (OPF) and business object model (BOM)

I think JBoss is what you need.

Crystal Reports has its own scripting language which resembles BASIC. SQL is used for retrieving the initial dataset, and you can also specify a stored proc to improve performance -- allows the server to cache query plans. If you look at their certification guide they even have a SQL test of their own, though it's an elective and not required for level 2 certification. I haven't used all their BI stuff however, just Crystal Reports.
