Bill Gates says iPods on the way out

So, does anyone believe this, or should we file this away with other classic Gates nonsense like "640k Should Be Enough for Anybody.''? With OS X Tiger looking like a real Longhorn killer, I can't help but suspect that this is just anti-Apple FUD. |
well, he might be right. (gasp!)
There are actually cheaper mp3 players of similar quality and WAY cheaper price out there. The thing that is keeping the Ipod in the lead is its cult fashion status. As seen by the sudden trend for white headfones. Then again, with all thier working together (mac office) they are fighting for the popular vote. With the Mac Mini, Apple knocked out Microsoft's "cheaper hardware" advantage and now they are fighting for the *hem* "Hearts and Minds" of the general user. titanium_geek |
Wow
So many people know how to read /. on here. I am impressed! |

I dont understand how its a killer when Longhorn hasnt even been released yet? Anyway I could care less what Gates thinks. He could say I dont believe dialup will be the connection of the future and be right or he could say 40gb is all anyone would ever need and be wrong... |

He does have a point about mobiles though. Why carry both a mobile and an ipod if the mobile could have similar functionallity?
However, I wouldn't want to run "Windows Mobile" or whatever he calls it. Also, a current mobile would possibly be able to accomodate a small flash based mp3 player (Say 256Mb of songs). I doubt they would be putting hard drives in mobile phones just yet, due the the size and weight issues, and people have a tendancy to drop mobiles. Just my 2c --Ian |
