best linux for newbies?

Hello.

I've been a windows user and partial linux user, and thinking of installing fc4 , but I hear all the complaints of fc and redhat so I was thinking, maybe you will probably know the right linux to go for.

I've been using linux for past years at uni, but not indepth for sure. Technically a total noob i guess.

So I would gladly hear suggestions/recommendations for this matter.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

I think one of the major distro like Fedora, Mandriva or Suse would be right choice for you.

OMG Another One

Welcome to LQ. You're about to embark on a great voyage of discovery and all of us here wish you the best. Rest assured, when you need help with anything Linux - you'll get it here.

One piece of advice. Search the forum. This topic has been covered several hundred times. Just a quick search will reveal a wealth of reading opportunities. Try that first. Any distro will have it supporters and detractors. If you really require help in making this decision, please provide us with a little more information to go on; such as:

Hardware you plan to install on.
Will you dual boot?
Give an honest assessment of your level of general computer knowledge.

BTW: I've put FC4 on my sister-in-law's laptop. She's not just Linux illiterate, but computer illiterate in general. Works just fine for her, but she's only doing web, email, light word processing. Her demands and expectations are low and FC4 easily meets them.

Good Luck!
