Bandwidth????

-hi guys hope u can give an insight here coz i think i am confuse---we have a 1.5Mbps DSL connection it is suppose to be a highspeed connection but we cant feel that 1.5 speed it seems that our speed is not 1.5Mbps specially in downloading either through http or ftp...my questions is asuming that our speed is really 1.5Mbps as assured by our ISP..if i access a website or download either through http or ftp is it our bandwidth that is being used or the site that i am accessing?

Test your bandwidth: http://www.dslreports.com/stest

You can google bandwidth test for different ones if you have problems with that one.

Depending on the website you may be at the mercy of the other person's bandwidth.

Alternatively you can use gkrellm to monitor your connection speed in real time. As you can guess, in order to get a useful measurement you'd need to download a relatively large file, such as starting an ISO download (obviously you'd want to cancel it after 15 or 20 seconds, but that's enough to see what kind of speed you're getting)

As an aside, there are many factors that can affect speed, such as the level of traffic on the site you're trying to visit, as well as the level of traffic on your network (assuming you're on one)
