asking for advices
i am a student and now i have to do a small project with two another classmates,we know a little about linux, but we want to choose *nix as our career in future,so we plan to design a personal firewall based on linux as a start,we have read a lot of articles ,but still can't make a concrete plan ,and only know that we should make out a firewall based on linux,is there anyone who would like to help us?
we would appreciate you very much.
Here's my take on it.
is there anyone who would like to help us?
A discussion or brainstorm session would be a better start but that requires you to do the research yourself (*before* coming to LQ) and come up with idea's that are both unique and compelling. The originality of the idea should reflect your own thinking. Meaning we can discuss your idea's at LQ, but you should not expect us to invest time and energy acting like an idea generator for you. Note trawling for and leeching idea's isn't prohibited by netiquette or the spirit of FOSS or the LQ Rules, it just reflects the (consumerist) nature of your LQ membership (looking for others to provide an easy fix).
( so we plan to design a personal firewall based on linux as a start,we have read a lot of articles ,but still can't make a concrete plan ,and only know that we should make out a firewall based on linux
If you've read some posts on firewalls here at LQ and the rest of teh intarweb you might have found there is only one Linux firewall. It's called the Netfilter framework. About everything you find on Freshmeat, Savannah and Sourceforge is either an extension to the framework or a management layer or a frontend. So if you say you have very little knowledge of GNU/Linux and you want to "design a personal firewall" then you probably mean Yet Another Frontend and I would suggest looking up examples at Freshmeat and Sourceforge. If that's not what you mean, search LQ for other recent "I need to do a project" threads. )
Finally this thread is not about Linux or Linux Security but helping you with your project. It is more appropriate (wrt exposure) in either the Programming forum or /General and will be moved there RSN.
