apt-get or yum for Cygwin?

To update the Cygwin environment installed on a Windows machine, I use the setup.exe application that allows me to select updates by package.

But is there a way to do that with a command-line tool like apt-get, urpmi, yum or aptitude?

Sadly, I fear I am going to be forced to use Windows on my new job. But I think I will be able to at least use Cygwin. I want to get details like this lined up early.

I don't think Cygwin is supported any longer (could be wrong). I think something else I would look into is running a virtual box (most computers are dual core nowadays).

Yeah, it's still going strong. I think there have been attempts to create something like apt-get for it but they don't seem to have got anywhere.

Au contraire. Cygwin has a huge and growing following. It is an excellent way to allow Windows users to have some of the benefit of the wonderful world of Linux and to gain some experience therein. And they don't have to abandon Windows to use it, so it's much easier to experiment with than Linux (at least in the minds of many Windows users).

But oddly, I can't find any forum that supports it. The support seems to all be by old-fashioned mailing list. Go figure.
