Nevermind, problem is fixed, no need for new modem ... just changed my distro to Fedora Core 4 and everything works well (except for Lexmark printer, notorious for linux incompatibility).

I have heard that Linspire is a disgrace to all linux distros ... I must agree.

Dualboot slack8/win98 SBC 2Wire 1800HG cable modem.
Followed Deneteus instructions w/one extra step. Ran netconfig to get my eth0 card installed and change computer name (hostname and domain name). Shutdown, reboot into windows, went to 2wire homeportal, click on Reset, click Reset local settings. Shutdown. Bootup into Slack8, login as usr, startx, mozilla wizard popup put in my isp account info for email. Thnx Demeteus

Hi, when I type in 172.16.0.1 into my firefox browser in order to configure my 2wire settings, I receive an "connection was refused when attempting to contact to 172.16.0.1" error, does anyone have any ideas as to how I might be able to correct this problem?
