Any Other Pipe Smokers Here?

I recently (about a month ago) took up pipe smoking and was wondering if there were any others here who enjoyed a nice bowl full of tobacco?

I picked up a nice meershaum in KY on my way through a couple of days ago and it smokes great.

Yeah, yeah, I know it's not PC these days. Spare me.

You know I have to admit I do like it... and I don't care about whether or not it's healthy or not. I haven't done it regularly in about 2 years now, but I have a friend who does it religiously. When I'm over the house every so often I'll partake in the occasion.... maybe once a month.

Any particular flavor that you enjoy?

We have a "Humidor Smoke Shop" in downtown Newport (RI) that had this fantastic "Special Blend" that I was addicted to for some time. Really tasted great.

You know... this post reminded me of how much I miss settling down for the evening and having a pipe after supper. My tobacco pipe broke which is why I ended up slowing down, so I'll have to go and set myself back up.

This post brought back memories! Never thought I'd regain my impetus for this in a linux forum.
I do appreciate it though.

Happy smoking!

- Bill

[EDIT] - Would you recommend the meerchaum? I never tried one.

I have a fondness for a vanilla/maple blend as well as a house blend from a little shop in KY I pass by pretty regularly.

I definately recommend meershaum. A very smooth, cool smoke. I have a penchant for long pipes so I tend to go with churchwardens. A meershaum churchwarden is my ideal pipe.

He he ... is this because you use Slackware? I think it might be taking you over a bit.

Hookahs are very nice and relaxing.

The plan is to get a titan one day. Reclining chairs, good music and some friends. Very luxurious.

I don't smoke because it's against my beliefs, but just to let pipe-smokers know I kinda like pipe smoke because it's usually a very pleasant smell! Cigarette smoke smells stale and disgusting.

When I was a heavy cigarette smoker I attempted to cut down by smoking a pipe. Within a month I had a pipe rack and five different pipes. I was "enjoying" a pipe with my coffee first thing in the morning and those pipes were never far from my lips. Heck! I loved them. The choice of tobacco available in my local tobacconist returned me into my little boy in a sweetshop days. And then I found myself pointing with the stem and using the whole pipe smoking ritual as a conversational delaying tactic. It all had to end when my girlfriend came downstairs in the middle of the night to find me sitting at my computer in my underwear and smoking a pipe. And I was wearing slippers. SLIPPERS!!!! To this day, I have no idea where those slippers came from. No idea. I loved those pipes though. Particularly the briar.

LMAO! I love that ... Really made me laugh; especially the bit about the slippers. When I was a horrid sweaty little teen my best friend (who was much bigger and hairier than me) used to entice a small gang of us into the woods where he would offer us all a smoke of his 'pipe'. This was a strange contraption made from an empty Humbrol paint tin and a short sawn-off copper tube. Of all things, we used to smoke tea! We pretended to enjoy it, even though it has a strangely antiseptic tang to it. Anyone for tea?

When it becomes illegal to walk around without a bar code in public, are you going to be glad too?
