Android v. Symbian: You're the judge

Which do you like better, Android or Symbian? Please explain your votes IN DETAIL.

Timothy Miller 11-27-2010 01:32 PM

I vote Android, simply because I like the devices. The smartphones I have access to have never come with Symbian, and probably never will. And I'm all about the device, I could care less about the OS as long as it gets the job done (used crackberries for years because they simply work).

Kenny_Strawn 11-27-2010 01:59 PM

I kind of agree. I simply didn't vote because both operating systems are FOSS.

paulsm4 11-27-2010 02:30 PM

If you're going to have one of those "Chocolate" vs. "Vanilla" polls, then why don't you include Neopolitan? Or Rocky Road?

My favorite, FYI, is Mint Chocolate Chip ;)

What in the world is this about? It's completely off-topic. Reporting...

Besides, I posted this thread as a help thread: I wanted to know just how many votes this poll would generate, as I am clueless whether to get an Android phone or a Symbian phone.

Timothy Miller 11-27-2010 03:57 PM

Who cares which, they both work. Get the phone that has the form you want with the hadware you need and is comfortable to use.

Matir 11-29-2010 09:22 PM

Kenny,

I agree, his post was off-topic. However, this entire thread is not a technical question in nature and is more appropriate in General.

I will not vote cuz I do not use either of the two on my phone. Mine is Sony Ericsson W380 which is a Java based. But I have seen Symbian based Nokia phones and generally I do not like the interface on those. It is too simple and no matter how much money you put in it, the interface generally seems quite similar to lower end phones. On the other hand, some of the samsung Android phones are smart and sleek. They look good with a very nice intuitive interface and lots of gadgets on the desktop. I like Android more than Symbian. Just a personal choice though.

What's wrong with him posting a small, funny, oof-topic post?

And why do you get so upset when LQ doesn't revolve around you and behave perfectly according to your standards?

dv502 11-30-2010 11:02 PM

I never owned a smartphone; only dumb cellphones.

If I were to get a smartphone I probably go with the Android or the Nokia N900.

As long as their linux based, you can't go wrong.

Notice the boldfaced word that was cleaned of a spelling error.

And I don't get upset when it doesn't revolve around me. I only get upset when it doesn't revolve around Linux.

You know, this might be LinuxQuestions, but that doesn't mean there isn't a little room for leeway here and there. I think paulsm4's post was just trying to use analogy in that he was trying to explain that he couldn't vote because the poll only contains two options (the "chocolate" and "vanilla"), and his opinion didn't fit into either (his preference of "mint chocolate chip").

catkin 12-01-2010 12:08 AM

I would choose Symbian because it is not Google's

jiml8 12-01-2010 12:37 AM

I really like my li'l Android phone.
