Alternative to bloated mplayer2 ?

Hello,

mplayer is progressing with outstanding features, however, it has become quite bloated.

Would you know a good lightweight alternative to mplayer ?

best regards

I have mplayer but use VLC mainly.
There's also a fork of mplayer, because some guy took exception to the codebase and felt a rewrite of some of it was in order. Forget the name

Bloated? 'tis the smallest media player ever, unless you use it with GUI; 'tis even recommended by those aggressive minimalists from suckless. Also looks like it was merged with mplayer2.
