All I want for Christmas ...

... is a 30-40 Gig hard drive connected to an MP3/OGG player so I can play my entire music collection in random (or some other chosen) order with a mini-jack output so I can plug it into my Bose at home, or my car stereo, etc. And, I can't see any reason a little gizmo like this should sell for over $100 US. Anybody seen such a thing? I sure haven't.

I can see why they can sell for over $100 US; it's called greed.

trickykid 12-11-2008 03:24 PM

Absolutely nothing, at least materialistically that is.

I don't celebrate Christmas, it's more like a Winter Solstice and I get the day off work to spend with the kids and watch them play with the few gifts they get.

I want - and I am going to have - a new motorcycle.

The iPOD Video is exactly what you're looking for!
(But sadly - It costs around $300)

Maybe you can find a good deal for it during at some Xmas sales.

Damn, I need an 80+ GB HDD for that.

That really shouldn't be an issue. You should be able to get any size hard drive you want with an MP3 player that plugs into it via USB ... entirely non-proprietary.

Whoever suggested IPOD up there obviously doesn't have a clue.

It needs to be said.

You'll shoot your eye out.

An observation . . .

I work in the Electronics department at Walmart, and have for years - I can observe that others that come in to shop want, want, want! I've been ringing up sales for hundreds of dollars on computers, TV's, and God knows how many video games. I just hope I don't get trampled, too.

Having said that, *I* want one of those laptops in the case . . . ;) remove Vista, install Slack - I'll be happy. After that, a big LCD TV and about 12 CD's. ;)

And after *that,* I'd like the time to actually use this stuff. . .

I want a computer built specifically for virtualization. Two 1 TB sata hard drives, a decent video card, and at least 4GB of ram should cover it. :D

I want to clear some space in my house by selling all this old, useless crap... So I can buy new, useless crap. On a more realistic note, I expect a bag of switches and/or coal.

schneidz 12-16-2008 01:05 PM

ipod i beleive cannot act like a usb-hardrive (the only way to transfer data to it is with something itunes-like.

creative zen vision w can do drag-n-drop copies with mtpfs

archos av dvr-500 is basically a portable hard drive that can record sd tv and play music.

these are quite expensive.

How about a trip to Disney? Yep, save all that money we'd otherwise use to buy useless gifts and take everyone out to Disney? That's what I want for Christmas.

That, or a nice laptop. :)
