About domain registration

Hi folks,

google search on low cost domain registration brought me numerous. Followings are only part of my search result;

http://www.registerfly.com/domains/
.com $9.99/annum

http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/defaul...%2Ehk%2Fsearch
.com $8.95/annum
http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/compar...isc=gooxt021bc
special offer
.com $6.95/annum

http://ipower.com/domain-names.html
.COM $6.50/1-yr. $13.00/2-yr $19.50-3/yr

http://www.active-domain.com/
.com $3.95/annum
http://www.active-domain.com/price.htm
.com $9.95/yr

http://www.dnbuy.com/
.com $8.97/yr

I found it difficult to make a selection, Apart from cost service is also important. Could you please shed me some light.

TIA

You find the level of service important yet you only mention price, so why not provide a service matrix?

What I meant service was it can work without problem, not other services else in addition.

Some folks had objection on godaddy because it was awful trying to get certain things to work.

So I take some precaution because transferring domain to another site also costs expenses.

Tks.

I use topmostweb.com and happy with the little interaction I have to deal with. I register, configure, done. When making changes, their almost immediate. It's great when you update DNS servers, replicates on their end within minutes.

Almost all domain registrars require if transferring to at least renew for 1 year, it's almost standard, some include this fee as a transfer fee instead of having both, the transfer fee and the domain registration fee. The one I specified, I'm unsure how their transfer works, I do know they require a renewal in registration but I've never transferred a domain to them.

Whether the old registrar needs the customer renew one further year. Then at that period the customer has 2 registrars. OR the old registrar requests the customer paying one year subscription as transfer fee only?

Are there any other terms in this respect. Tks.

Don't think I'm following.

Say you have Registrar's A and B. A is your current registrar and B is the registrar you want to transfer your domains to for administration, etc. You would actually get B to request the transfer to their services from A. And upon transfer, B will also require you renew for 1 year minimum. Say you have 6 months left before expiration, the 1 year renewal would expire a year from your current expiration, so in essence you would have 1.5 years before your domain expired and you would have to renew.

Hi trickykid,

Sorry for not explaining clear on my previous posting

If I understand your advice correctly;

A is current registrar
B is new registrar

X months before expiration, I make an application to B for transfer of Domain. Then B will make request to A for transfer and I have to pay one year (min) registration fee to B. The new registration period will start to run at end of X months for 12 calender months. If I'm wrong please correct me. Tks.

Is there any regulation governing that I have to notify my current registrar for a transfer X months before expiration. If yes what will be X?

Are there any other terms I have to pay attention to? TIA

Why would that matter? I registered my site using Linux. Fired up Firefox, navigated to topmostweb.com and registered the name I wanted..
