When Aakash Tablet was announced as LCAD(low cost access device) with subsidized price of around 35$ for students all over India,a few people said, its a vaporware. Now, we all know its not vaporware for sure, however early adopters has expressed disappointment with performance of Aakash Tablet PC in Aakash Tablet Review. Government has already announced that there is a huge market of 22 crores Akash Tablet and they may choose new manufactures for it.22 crores is 22,00,00,000 in numbers. Think about that many more devices connected to Internet by Android device. It may rocket fire everything Internet Population, webhosting, forum users on LQ and what not? What you think it can do to change the eco-system of internet in India, at least?
In terms of performance I would say it is close to paperweight, but it depends on what you want to do with it. The upgraded version is much better than the regular version.
I think no one expected it to be a IPad competitor, a better version is expected to come in April this year, which would be 3 times faster. It will serve well as it purpose specified- LCAD- low cost access device.

Rep:
Look at the history of low cost devices / equipment in India. The first mover has had advantages only in "mortar" businesses (as in "click" and "mortar").
In the case of computers, etc soon people hanker after freebies and load pirated versions of the most popular software.
So AKASH will be another marketing stunt.
OK
