A riddle: can you solve it?
So this dude wants to go to Rome. Only, he doesn't quite know the way. So he is on his way, but to his horror, he sees that the road splits, one branch going to the left and the other to the right. Which way should he go, to the left or right?
But then he meets this old man who is willing to help. He admits he doesn't know the way to Rome either, he is just to old to remember. But the old man does tells him that there are two houses near by and the people living in those houses do know the way to Rome. But he warns our dude that in one of the houses, the people living there always lie and the people in the other house always tell the truth. But again, he forgot which house was which.
Our dude is in a hurry and doesn't want to go to both houses to ask for directions and he only want's to ask one question (just trust me that he only want's to ask one question ).
So the what does he ask? He can't ask directly "what way leads to Rome" because he won't know if they are telling the truth. He can't ask "He is the color of my shirt green" to determine if they are speaking the truth because he would then have to ask an additional question. So what question does he ask?
Here is another, and I'm posting it because I actually solved it myself. Say you have 3 or more sacks of gold, all but 1 are real. You have only a penny scale and 1 penny (ONE measurement ONE time) How do you eliminate the fake sack knowing only that the real gold coins all have the same weight and the fakes have the same differant weight? It doesn't matter how many sack you assume, 3 or more, no limit. I got this from an old detective show called Columbo by the way
