So will it fit into slot A and will it work? The seller said it was Slot 1 but it is slot A and supports Athlon processor.

Basically the question has changed slightly. Will a slot 1 Pentium 3 800mhz processor fit into a slot A designed for AMD Athlon processor? Also will it work?

my P3 @ 733 mhz can co both 100Mhz and 133 Mhz, even 66 Mhz is possible, intel has always been about backward compatibility.

funny how amd will use the same princible now, while intel finally moves on. ( with 64 bit processors )

Thanks everyone for your help. I wish sellers on Ebay did their research better. I could have been stuck with processor thats not compatible with a motherboard.

Pentium 3 and Celeron 3 have both been produced as SOCKET 370 and later-on SLOT 1 (which was just an extention print with some jumpers)

no, it depends on the prossor you may have,

slot1 is usually boxed with one or two coolers,
placed upward upon the mainboard, like it were a network card or such.

socket 370 lays flat on the mainboard "normally"

I've bought the Motherboard. It is a socket 370. It is only 100mhz bus, so I am a bit worried about that, but if it works, I'll reply to this thread.
UndiFineD Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out if you have a socket or slot CPU

All P2's were slot 1. Intel switched (back) to sockets because they're cheaper to manufacture. That change happened around the time your CPU was produced.

If it helps, here's a picture of a slot A CPU I had laying around. The slot 1 looks very similar -- I've got a slot 1 CPU also, but I'm not opening the case to photograph it for you.
