A motherboard for Pentium 3 800mhz 256/133
Could someone please give me advice as to a motherboard that will support a Pentium 3 800mhz 256/133 processor. I know that a VC820 supports this cpu, but it is rare and expensive. I just want to know if there are any reliable and affordable alternatives.

One of the best sites to browse different products in a comprehensive list..
http://www.pricewatch.com |
The site does not include the cpu I bought. I really just want to know how I can check what motherboards are compatible with my cpu.

Try a search on the site as well.. I'm sure they are going to have motherboards you can just browse thru that are going to be compatible with your cpu. |
it's an old CPU, check ebay or such, I have a P3 @ 733 Mhz on some nameless baby atx board. it supports both slot 1 and socket 3XX?
on-board usb, audio and video and lan, though I do not use much else but the on-board video and a pci 3com nic |
I must probably look really stupid. But followed up the links you mentioned for Pentium 3 compatible motherboards and only found motherboards compatible with 133mhz, 100mhz and Celeron.
|
So a motherboard that supports a p3 733 motherboard would support a 800 mhz?
I know its old compared to a Xeon, but at my home its cutting edge technology. I have been using an old Cyrix cpu on my flagship for years while paying off debts. |
Please do not let this thread go into oblivioun, as I am sure a few words could solve my problem. If you don't know, just tell me how I can find out myself, as this has taken hours of my time.

after a long search I finally found my board ... yes, incredible, it fits :p |
I appreaciate your help, but am far from getting a result. So far I have worked out that I need to plug the Pent 3 into slot 1.
What I am confused about is wether Pent 2, 3, 4 all have the same number of pins. I know that celeron is a socket. Is there a way I can tell from a motherboards chipset or anything else what cpu it supports. The cpu's going on ebay do not mention the number of pins they have and motherboards selling on ebay do not mention the number of pins they accept. Hell. |
Intel 440 bx/zx
those idiots at Gateway said I could not put a P3 850(coppermine) chip on it............DO'H here it is 3 years later and this board still hums!!! |
I tried looking for Intel 440 bx/zx on ebay and only found one selling in Germany I think. Postage was a bummer.
I bought an Msi Slot 1 motherboard. Could anyone tell me in advance, whether I will have to resell the board? I bought it out of frustration, as I could not find a way to check what cpu's motherboards support. |
as far as I have seen, there are basically two types of slot1 mb's
550 Mhz and lower 500 Mhz upto aprox 1200 Mhz msi is an ok brand, so if it's from 2nd type, i think you're ok |
Managed to get the following information. Will it be compatible?
CPU * Slot A for AMD ® Athlon TM processor. * Support for up to 1GHz Processor |
It's the 133Mhz front-side bus you have to worry about. Early Slot 1 P3 mobos used a 100Mhz FSB just like the P2 350-450 did. I think the fastest P3 with a 100Mhz FSB is 600Mhz. You can also tell by the L2 cache, 100Mhz P3's had twice as much of it, 512 instead of 256, but it was clocked at half the speed of the 133Mhz versions.
