Well, I just finished watching the Scotland V Holland match.
A good result for Scotland. I can't wait for the second leg in Amsterdam - but I thought it was a little weird - in the past, the Dutch have had a good record using younger/up and coming players - so why did it seem that the Dutch have become the "Everton" of international football? (apologies to those of you who don't follow the UK premiership).
regards
John
p.s. the Everton of international football - Everton (for those of you who don't know are the "other" big team in Liverpool, and recently, have been known for using "BIG" names, who are approaching the end of their playing career (relatively successfully I might add).
When I saw who Dick Advocaat had selected, I was quite suprised to see so many Dutch players that are getting "long in the tooth" - and found it amusing that Ruud Van Gullett? was commentating, rather than playing . In truth, he did field some players that are relatively new to international football, but not anywhere near as many as I would have expected
Its ups and downs John - they're on a dip - they've still got good players - lets hope England win tommorow - I'd like to see Joe Cole getting into the team more - for my money - Joe's clearly the most gifted footballer ( purely in terms of ball skill ) that England have ever produced - I'd like to see England pass the ball more (even in their own half ) - just to get that confident composure on the ball before they take it forward - and lets hope Liverpool get their act together and get back to where they belong ( my team ).
Yeah, my partner told me the France score as soon as I got up. another excellent result.
Schatoor, I should point out that while it was a good result for Scotland, "your lot" should have played a lot better than they did. Whether it's because Dick Advocaat's got a lot of "old timers" to choose from, I don't know.
Don't forget, he trained most of the jock players that came from Rangers to the Scottish National side but the numbers of players that seem to have been around for ages ?? the n00b that he fielded who will be worth watching in future IMO is Van der Neyde I thought he did an excellent job.
Us English are through aswell...... - thank god! - lest hope our lads don't riot in Portugal - otherwise our team will get kicked out this time ...... keep it peaceful fellas...... feel a bit sorry for the Welsh...... they're a useful outfit these days - didn't see the Scotland/Holland game but heard that Man United's Van Nistleroy sorted them.... not sure what will happen to Berti Volks in the aftermath........
For the dutchmen who have been so smug - the 6-0 result was good.
So why didn't you manage something similar in Scotland eh ? Or is it that because so many of the current dutch national team are "old donkeys", that they need a full match warm up, followed by a 3 day "warm down", before they play at their best ?
It's not up for arguement. Historically, the dutch national team have been absolutely brilliant - a pleasure to watch, but hell, recently, their performances have been as up and down as england
Yep....... awesome game, both sides played well - very tense - congrats to all the English lads for winning the World Cup - what a kick by Johhny in the final 40 seconds ! ........ respect, and thanks to Johno for being an excellent captain over the last few years.
Didn't the Aussie team get their monies worth out of their flyhalf! After the stitches in Larcomb's mouth, he looked like "coco the clown" and kept having to go off to get it treated, but kept coming back on for more ! Outstanding.
And while it was a tense game, played vvv well by both sides, it was almost as if it was choreographed in favour of "Lord Wilkinson of Surrey". i.e. almost as if it had been written by a hollywood script writer - I mean, yes, the drop goal was excellent, but talk about "set piece"!
Still, nice to see that England have actually won something - better than just being good on paper or "well fancied" eh!
