World War III is dutifully declared, and many tens of thousands of men and women in the age of 18 to 42 are drafted into the "national service" and ... die.
I'd like to see them try to draft me into the armed services. I'll gladly skip the country before they try to send a military jeep to get me. So what if this is WWIII? As far as I'm concerned I hope I live in a nuclear strategic area. Why? So I can die faster(instantly vaporized). I'll be the lucky one, and not have to live the post-nuclear-war like those poor fscks in Japan did 50+ years ago.
We haven't got electronic voting machines over here yet, but we've had plenty of cases of cheating with postal votes. Dead people voting, five times as many people registered at an address than actually live there, etc.
Paris looks better than Obama or McCain getting out of cars.
I loved that episode of The Simpsons where dead pets were on the voters' list.
It's a pity Paris is only going for Fake President; she'd make a lot of "firsts" as the real president - I'm not saying she'd make a good president, but she'd certainly make and break records.
I've been skimming through articles and bits & pieces on the web about McCain and Palin. Is there anybody, outside a lunatic asylum, who would want those two in power? Are they serious, or some kind of sick joke? I'm cynical about all politicians, but that pair make even GWB look good.
If Paris was standing for real, who would be her ideal running mate? And should we, in the UK, have Victoria Beckham as PM?
BBC News: "President Hilton and Prime Minister Beckham met for talks today. They discussed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for two seconds, and shoes and handbags for twelve hours."
As an American voter, it is your responsibility to your country(aka all the people in it) to know exactly why and what you're voting for when you cast your ballot. If you vote simply because you 'like' a candidate, 'like' the way they look, or some other 'frivolous' reason, you are swindling the rest of us American's that take voting seriously.
The fact is, ALL politicians lie. Never take what they 'say' at face value. For this reason, I try to not let the 'gaffes' or things they promise on TV not influence my decision. I like to base my decisions on MORE 'factual' data that is written in their policies(not pure factual, but more so than speech). The fact that they wrote it in a policy and posted it for the public to see is a LITTLE bit of accountability right there. Tax policy is an obvious place to start here since all presidential candidates always create a tax plan that they 'generally' stick to as best they can (congress is an obvious obstacle sometimes). On that note, here are some articles that I think are worth reading. Don't forget to take into account each candidate's tax policy in light of our recent financial crisis:
I really want to drive home the fact that taking money away from large investors(aka many people above the $250k mark) is BAD for the economy and stock market in our current situation (IMO). Don't let TV fool you that all rich people are dumb and blow their money on stupid things because it's just not true. One of the reasons we have a lot of the technology and niceties we have today as a public is because of R&D Capital that investors inject into companies by way of buying their stocks. Taking more money away from them reduces the money they can inject. You'll say that the lower taxed middle/lower class will have extra money to put in the market. However the reality is that the middle/lower class is less likely to take as much risk as a higher income class person would. So I feel would happen is a net decrease in the overall stock market as a whole due to the capital being taken away by the government. Not to mention the fact that government isn't exactly a well oiled machine that can carry out 'tasks' as efficiently and cheaply as possible.
There is a time and a place when taxing the rich more is actually good but I don't think this is one of them.
All though this is not 'directly' related to the 2008 elections, this is more historical now and I think relevant. A film about current and soon-to-be former President Bush. The trailers look interesting. www.wthefilm.com
Yeah... that's the way things work. I'm sure there's already been another thread for this same topic.
It doesn't look to me like either candidate would veto a bill strengthening software patents/copyrights if they made it to their desk, though. I've been trying to find stuff on both candidates about their stances on free software, but considering this new influx of issues, it doesn't look like any presidential candidate would ever try to make a big deal on how they feel about free software. I'd probably vote for just about anyone who made a public statement in favor of the FSF (behold my narrow-mindedness).

I think that's the last concern of most people here in the United States. Let's worry about the economy and many other pressing issues before software patents.

Anyone notice Obama's hair getting grayer and grayer through the debate's?
I guess he's dying his hair to try and make himself look older/experienced. How deceptive of him.
McCain earned his gray hair.
Nah, running for President and then if you get elected makes you age twice as fast. Look at the two most recent Presidents, both entered office with brown hair. When they're leaving office, they both have gray or white hair. I'd imagine running for President and being President is one of the most stressful jobs.
And McCain doesn't have gray hair, it's pure white! He should just shave his head, his comb over of his thinning hair to cover the massive bald spot on top looks just as bad as Trumps comb over!

Yes, but those presidents hair grayed over years. Obama's has grayed over the past month or so. I just don't think it happens that fast.
