I do believe that the option some people have in some states to just strictly pick by Party should just stay home on election day. There are plenty of people who shouldn't vote, those are one of them.

Well thats it folks, its all over. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/default.stm and I am now watching Mccain's mourning ,er I mean concession speech right now. I knew Obama was going to win anyways, and I still did not vote. I didn't need to. The still doesn't mean I support either of them.

And even though I chose not to vote, I do have one thing to say to the Republican: Don't worry, you will find yourself in the seat of power again, soon, in around, I don't know, 20 years! Mccain has only himself to blame, for siding so much with Bush. My dad actually still voted Mccain which is beyond my comprehension, even though I have never seen him so critical of the Republicans before. Go figure.

Nah McCain lost cause people are tired of the negative Rove like tactics. Also, Obama motivated those that never voted before or felt the need to vote. I'm serious to say, a McCain of 8 years ago without Palin would be making his acceptance speech right now instead of his concession speech.

I predicted a landslide earlier in this thread on Oct 6.. it was a given this time around.

I can live with 4 or 8 years of Obama, I don't know if I would have made it under 4 more years of Bush.

Perhaps this is the end of the Rove like negative campaigning, maybe now Republicans will have to go back to the drawing board with actual ideas to problems we face as Americans.

The sad thing is, in McCain's concession speech, if he made those types of speeches during his campaign, we might have seen a different outcome tonight.

You made the right decision.

Thank you from a distant observer.

I'll give this 24 hours or so to allow for gloating and commiserations and then close it for about 4 years

Close for 4 years? Pfftt.. from the rumors I've already heard, they say Palin is gonna give Presidency a shot, if that's the case, it's just a guarantee that Obama can go ahead and plan for his second term during his first term. No Presidency could be worse than a Palin Presidency. I'd rather see McCain in there at 76 years old without Palin as his sidekick than see Palin as the top dog in the White House.

Palin is essentially Bush in drag. Actually, Palin makes Bush seem like someone who IS educated. Scary huh? Mccain's choice for Palin as VP completely backfired. Women voters saw past his patronization, and it went down in flames. Just because there was a woman on the ticket obviously did not guarantee him squat. The fact that Palin is different physically in gender does not mean she is a woman anyways. Completely against abortion no matter what, strictly 'prolife' and a pentacostal nutjob. This country has had enough of these religious morons.

Less god, more logic!

Now if Palin even has the nerve to show her ugly head in the next elections, I make a point to be even more mean to her. I can't say enough bad things about her. I hate her fucking guts.

No gloating is indicated, and commiserations were in order no matter which of them won.

I, for one, cannot decide which is worse; giving the white house to the "man on a horse" whose ideological followers worship him without thought (oxymoron: ideological basically means "without thought"), backed by a congress whose senior leadership were among the very most culpable in creating this economic disaster, during a time when the US is facing a "perfect storm"?

Or, allowing the republicans to maintain any power at all, given that their track record for the last decade at least has been increasingly fascist (certainly not conservative; there is no conservative party in the US right now).

Right now, the US has two political parties: the Corporate Fascist Party, and the Lunatic Party. Yesterday, the Lunatics won big.

Either way, it bodes ill for the Republic.

This is why we NEED a third party desperately, but thats never going to happen because if a third party would ever get close to the presidency, the two main parties will ultimately team up to take it down. Remember Ross Perot? He was the closest we ever saw as a third party, and the dems/reps completely took him down. There is never going to be a third party. The choices always have been, and always will be, shit or shittier. Nothing will ever change.

I am glad you didn't vote. You are clearly unqualified, as the manifest contradiction between these two paragraphs makes clear.

What I would like to know, though, is this: Do you consider yourself to be a member of the "enlightened, educated, intelligent, and tolerant" Left?

And, if you do, are you intelligent enough to see the contradiction?

I personally hate ideologues. I don't care what their ideology is. If they are not intelligent enough to actually think about it, then they shouldn't be let out without a keeper.

Do I see a contradiction? No, because I'm at least 'enlightened' enough not to base political ideas with religion, which I was referring to the now soon to be previous administration and Palin. When you have someone like these people say that we are in Iraq because of 'god', and that everything you do is because of 'god', well then I can't help but post what I did earlier.

Unfortunately this country is so wrapped up still with the idea that a candidate must be a Christian, that if one doesn't even declare his/her 'faith' before running for office, that person clearly has no chance. This country has not yet moved passed the backwards thinking of religion.

The fact that I didn't vote, doesn't mean squat. I can still complain as much as I like, and if I did actually take the time to vote, I would have still wrote in 'Bob Dobbs' on the ballot.

I like people who like to twist things around, 'if you didn't vote, you have no right to complain'. Yes I do. Cause I didn't vote for said person. I didn't vote for Obama, because I don't like him either. And he is just as idealistic as you claim I am. Obama's campaign was 'change'. Great, what kind of change? What exactly will he do? He did not elaborate. Change my tires for me? The only reason he won, is because people are tired of the Reps. but that doesn't mean things are going to be that much better.

If you ever get Palin as President, can we have Jade Goody as Prime Minister?
