20 years
It's not a birthday actually, but you may feel April 6 like it is.
Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation, speaking from a wheelchair, opened the 2011 Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit. This meeting Zemlin said, was for the “leaders of Linux.” Zemlin opened his presentation with a clever video celebrating 20-years of Linux history. Lovely article here; http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-sourc...t-to-come/8613 KDE releases April updates, codename: "Congrats" Quote:
GNOME 3 released; http://www.gnome.org/gnome-3/ Lots of other things have happened in the world of Linux over the past 20 years, it would take too long to even start typing about it. I love Linux, GNU, Free software, Open Source, GNOME, KDE, Xfce, LXDE, X, Bash, rpm, tar, GRUB, LILO, terminal............ I felt the need and this is just another way of me saying Thank You to all developers, users and contributors who care, for this amazing "thing" that we shortly call Linux. Tux is 20 years old. Long live Tux. If you didn't know, the name "Linux" didn't come from Linus. That name was given by Ari Lemke, who chose it over Linus' preferred name for the OS when he created the subdirectory for the source code on nic.funet.fi. So what was Linus' preferred name for his baby? "Freax" I'll finish with this; Quote:
