[SOLVED] Windows 7 - How to hide icons from the applications menu?
 

Hi all

My work laptop has a "Help and Support" section in the Applications Menu. I ironically can't find the answer to this question in that section. How do I hide it from being in the applications menu? I can't find any .desktop files anywhere and unsure of the Windows file structure. The laptop also has "Classic Explorer" installed to make it look more like Windows 98 (what I'm more familiar with).

Although you are allowed to ask questions about non-Linux stuff here, I would recommend taking your ms issues somewhere else.

I don't have a Windows 7 box to hand but the menu structure used to be held under something like windows\start menu and you could delete the shortcut files from there. Otherwise have you tried righ-click and delete the menu item?
Another thought is the registry, but it's been so long I'd have to take a look to work out what to look at.

Right-click and delete doesn't work unfortunately. I've found this relating to Windows XP, but if I recall correctly that's older than 7, so not sure if it'll work or not. :scratch:

The hardcore menu configuration can be found under C:\Users. Look under both your user name and the "All Users" item.

Annoyingly this is solved, but only thanks to the IT guys at work, who literally spent 30 seconds in 'regedit' and added one line. It was over so quickly that I didn't even notice what they did, but all I know is they fixed it. :)
