hey, I just downloaded Fendora 5 and put it on CD's and i copyed the boot ISO to a CD and tried to run it, it doesnt read it even though I configured it to boot from the CD first.please help
Did you remember to "Burn from Disc Image"? If you open the CD and see a bunch of files and folders, you did it right. If you open the CD and see a single *.iso file, you did it wrong...

and I made the mistake of installing DOS 6.1 on it first becuase before when I had put linux on a differnet comp my dad told me it would clear everyrthing for Linux.
Well, it doesn't sound too old, but some older BIOS require an initial image that is less than a floppy. Try downloading the Damn Small Linux (syslinux.iso) and try that. If that one boots up, then your BIOS might need an update. If that doesn't work, I'd have to assume it was the CD drive...
Usually you check the Md5sum to see if the CD's are alright.
If DSL-syslinx works, you probably can't install Fedora without a BIOS upgrade first (because by default 2.6 kernels take up more than 1.44MB, they use a new standard isolinux which doesn't have any limits). You'll have to find out who your motherboard manufacturer is and download a flash utility to disk and flash the bios. If something goes wrong, you'll have a paperweight...
Depends on the flash utility from your motherboard manufacturer. For example, Dell releases bios updates that are run from within Windows and then the machine reboots. My old HP has one that you can save to a floppy disk and reboot with the floppy. I can't say I've seen one on a CD yet, although I don't see why they wouldn't work. But it would be a waste of a CD since it's probably only ~1 MB...
