Here i am again to try to learn other things from Fedora.
Here is my problem: Friends are sending me emails and those emails have WMV and MPEG files and i don't know how to open them.
The only way i can open them is to send me back those email and open them on Windows XP.....things that i don't like at all ....i imagine that there is a way to open them with Linux but since that i am a newbie ..( cause i've tried Linux earlier and quit because i had no time to learn it ) here i am to ask .
Forget about my previous nifd ...i think i have solve the problem
they are just video files ....... the best player to use to have the most
support with a more variety of file types is mplayer so if its not
already on your box, then install that, and you'll be good to go ..
Thanks for the advice DR Ozz but MPlayer is a hell of a thing to install for a beginner like me. I've being on since your post and i'm not using it yet.
Is ther another one that i could use and that could be easier to install and configure ?
I think Fedora are a little hard on mutimedia offering things on the tip of the toes
Hi JJ,
I've tried MPlayer but couldn't find a decent GUI so went for Xine multimediaplayer.....it works great on FC3
Give it a try, still can't get wmv to play video yet though (plays sound though!)
You need to install win32 codecs. You can get them from xine's nightly builds page. You may also want to install lidvdcss if you want to watch encrypted DVD's.
Thanks reddazz,
Have apt'ed win32 codecs and they work perfectly......now how do I create symbolic links in firefox plugins folder so I can play Gxine thru my browser?
Isn't linux great when things work!
With Firefox, you can use a xine plugin to play embedded video, or you can click on a file and then select an application with which to open it (Firefox remembers the application so there is no need to keep choosing it).
