sha1sum check fails with different results - Fedora 8 - x86_64

I have downloaded the Fedora 8 x86_64 DVD iso images using the BitTorrent links on www.fedoraproject.org.

I am using a Windows XP SP2 computer with NTFS filesystem to download the iso files.

As far as I have read on the net, BitTorrent should automatically guarantee that the download process has completed free of errors. Nevertheless, I tried to check the integrity of the .iso files before burning by calculating the SHA1 signature.

I have used 2 tools to generate the SHA1: sha1sum.exe (command line) and HashCalc (GUI). Surprisingly, these tools provide different results on the same file!! None of the result matches the contents of the SHA1SUM file that came with the download.

I have tried to open the .iso files with WinRar and seem to be ok.

What is going wrong here? May be the calculations are not ok because my XP is 32-bit and the file is for the 64-bit version? Can I be confident that the files are ok?

Thanks in advance

Maybe your BitTorrent client or the feeder(s) where the ISO file is coming from?? Try downing loading the actual DVD ISO file with out using bittorrent;

Here is one possible download site to use;
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/rele...ra/x86_64/iso/

I do suggest you using wget for windows for the download;
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=16430
wget ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/rele...x86_64-DVD.iso

It does not matter if Windows XP is 32 or 64-bit, the file is just an exact image of the DVD.

My BitTorrent client is uTorrent, until now I have had no problems with it.

I believe the inconsistencies come here from the software that I am using to calculate the checksum. For some strange reason, it does not work ok and produces incorrect results. Perhaps it is related to the size of the file, more than 3 Gb, I am not sure. The surprising thing here is that different versions of the software provide different results!!

I will download the iso again from direct link, and then compare the new download with the BitTorrent one, to see if there are any differences.

Thank you for your help.
