Seems impossible to get a M$ MN-510 Adapter to work with Fedora 1- - Any suggestions?

I have searched high and low on the forum for the answer to my question: Can Linux work on a network box with a M$ MN-510 adapter (Verizon DSL Westell 2200 modem, M$ MN-700 router on the base). It is a dual boot machine (Win98SE). I just read a post that says it is darn near next to impossible. I've also read that it is possible but with considerable effort. Lord knows I have been spinning my wheels for a good four months while trying to connect through Ubuntu, Mandrake, Knoppix, and now Fedora 1. Buying equipment is not really an option at this time. I am a newbie who understands, but does not fully comprehend the kernel concept. Additionally, I cannot seem to make the commands I learned in the other packages work (e.g. ifconfig eth0 down, etc.) Somebody please come to my emotional rescue.:newbie:

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
