screen disappear after wrong VGA Driver installed

i've installed fedora core 4 on my notebook HP Pavilion dv4139ea.
Fedora did not probbed Dispaly and sound, i downloaded drivers form Intel's site that are not specific for Fedora, but i installed.
now my machine boots, i see everythin in text mode, and as soon as it changes mode to GUI, everything disappears.
system is working as HDD getts busy, i enter user name and password.. HDD works. but cannot see anything..

Is there any thing like "safe mode in windows"
or what is other solution

You should be able to access a console by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1. Were you able to get into X OK before installing these new drivers, or did Fedora not support the chipset at all? If it worked and the performance was reasonable, I'd suggest going back to the previous set of drivers.

You might get some useful information about what's going wrong from looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log - in particular look for any lines that begin (WW) or (EE) (warnings and errors).

I did it with the help of a friend,
1- started computer with Installation CD # 1
2- got into rescue mode (linux rescue) on boot prompt
3- followed screen instructions.
4- had a bash shell prompt
5- typed (chroot /mnt/sysimage)
6- cd /etc/X11 (X is capital, tried lot of times with x)
7- copied xorg.conf.backup to xorg.conf >>command (cp xorg.conf.backup xorg.conf )
8- command (reeboot)

i still did'nt know how to get into text mode. my system goes directly into GUI. :)
Thanks a lot ppl.
