Angry programming packages


i am a new linux user i have linux fd3 installed i put in the dvd with fd3 on it its a good copy it passed the test i went to add and remove applications i tried to install some more packages it let me but only if i had some of the server stuff checked off and i didnt want that server stuff im not sure if i have it now now i try to install programming tools- developement tools, tools for kde and gnome desktop but it says packages not found and list some specific packages is there anything i can do to get it to work heres a picture of what it looks likeclick here for desktop picture

The packages that we're not found are dependencies for the packages you are trying to install. Install them first...and welcome to RPM hell

where can i get those dependencie packages? does rpm hell mean this isnt going to work?

RPM hell is me being a smartass

RPM doesn't take care of dependencies itself so if you are trying to install something that depends on something else that isn't installed you have to install it manually. Sometimes that dependency has dependencies itself. This is why tools like YUM were created: to take care of dependencies and tracking down packages..

All the packages you need should be on your DVD, if not you will have to hunt them down from an RPM repository. In your screenshot you can see what packages are required before you can continue...

Use YUM or APT/SYNAPTIC, so that any dependencies are automatically resolved. The default Redhat/Fedora package management GUI is not very good in my opinion.

i use yum i got this

[root@localhost christopher]# yum update
Setting up Update Process
Setting up Repo: dag

Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: dag
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from dag: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
[root@localhost christopher]#
