Question PM2044UW scsi: RH9 ok; Fedora 1,2 not?

I have a dell optiplex gx1, 400mhz P2, 440bx, 2 scsi controllers:

1. Adaptec 2940 aic7870, with 1 HP dat drive.

2. PM2044UW (no cache card), with just 1 WD 7200rpm 9gb drive.

On RH9, solaris 9, and FreeBSD 4.9, all is well.

When I install Fedora 2, the PM2044UW and WD disk aren't there (during install, or after, or using the recovery CD.)

Went back to Fedora 1, thinking 2.6 was the culprit. Still no PM2044UW.

The 2940 and the tape do show up.

I'm booting off IDE (well, CD for install, then IDE), not using scsi bios.

Of course during boot both scsi controllers and peripherals show up.

Any information will be appreciated.

Paul

PS: Additional info-
Upon actually installing Core 2, I found the "Distributed Tech|SmartCache/Raid I-IV Controller" is indeed in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf. However there is no mention of it at a bootup, no opportunity to access it during install, and the 9gb Altas drive is not in hwconf. The HP tape and IDE drives are.

Hi

Question:

Have you tried daisy chaining the DAT and HDD off one of the
SCSI controllers, with the other controller removed.

I seem to remember something about the importance of the HDD
being at the start of the device chain, followed by CDROMS, etc
down the cable.

I take it that the HDD was previously formatted for use with the
controller and OS. Otherwise the drive will be hardware detected ok
but not available to the OS. (Sorry an obvious question but I had to ask

Have you checked the .conf files ?

Regards

Chris
