Question No sound with fedora 7

Hi,
Newly installed Fedora 7 on hardware where Fedora Core 3 ran without problems.
Sound configuration finds correct hardware Intel 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC '97 Audio controller
with module snd-intel 8x0 but sound test is negative and sound card is not correctly presented in the sound mixer .

Wink sound problem with fedora7

Hello,

Thanks for the reply,
I have not yet found a solution for the problem.
Although I have noticed that the former kernel version I used with this distribution ( 2.6.22.1-33 , latest version installed is 2.6.22.1-41)did not produce this problem.
So I expect that some kernel modules did not compile the right way against the new kernel.
Perhaps I have to look further into this. Anyone who can help with this ?

Include the output of dmesg | less

Smile fedora 7 sound problem

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in this problem.
Adding more confusing to it is the fact that it is an intermittent problem: sometimes there is sound, on reboot there is no sound. I think it has to do with the TV tuner card installed on the system, which has a conexant chip ( as you can see in the enclosed listings).
I have the impression that there is kind of a "race" between the connexant and the intel chip to be recognized and probed correctly by the software.
Anyhow here is the requested listing:

[jef@localhost ~]$ dmesg | grep -A2 alsa
cx2388x alsa driver version 0.0.6 loaded

One remark: in the instance of this listing the sound WORKED!
So I will publish an other one with the same output from the instructions in the case where the sound did not worked.

Greetings,

Unhappy fedora 7 sound problem

Hallo,

As I mentioned before: it's an intermittent problem.
Find below the output of dmesg | grep -A2 alsa and lspci on a system WITHOUT proper working sound !

[jef@localhost ~]$ dmesg | grep -A2 alsa
cx2388x alsa driver version 0.0.6 loaded
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:03.1[A] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
CORE cx88[0]: subsystem: 1462:8606, board: MSI TV-@nywhere Master [card=7,autodetected]
[jef@localhost ~]$ lspci
bash: lspci: command not found
[jef@localhost ~]$ /sbin/lspci

00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02)

00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 02)

00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550] (Secondary)

02:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Agere Systems FW323 (rev 61)
02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller (rev 01)

As you can see the output from dmesg.. differs while the output from lspci rests the same.

I did not try alsaconfig as root from a shell because it is not on my system although I installed all the alsa related packages available for my system.
I'll try it again logging in as root.

Thanks.
