No Login Screen on Toshiba P10-429 Laptop
 

I've just installed Fedora Core 2 Test 2. It gets all the way through the install, and reboots like normal. When it's done loading all the drivers, and gets ready to load the login screen, all I see is a blank black screen, and nothing else. It's a little irritating to say the least, seeing as I can get Suse installed just fine. I've tried selecting every type of monitor I can think of during setup, and I've even copied the same specs Suse uses as far as horizontal and vertical herz. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I'm having the same problem. I have tried a similar approach except I use knoppix. I have tried to edit the xfree86 monitor entry to match knoppix entry (more detail) and no matter how I try to edit it I can't either using knoppix or insertCD. How do you boot to a command line interface in Fedora? after going through grub it boots without any pause.

Well I got into the bash shell jusat boot from CD1 and type linux rescue at the boot prompt. I editted the xfree86config file, but it didn't help. I'm going to search the redhat site in a few for my monitors drivers and see if that works.

Right on Gufy....let me know what you find. I haven't been able to find anything either through Google, or through Redhat/Fedora documentation.

Ok t3rminous, found a solution. I always thought it was my monitor but it wasn't. Its the vid card. I had a XFX nVidia Geforce 4000 MX 128MB installed originally and when I went through anaconda i picked it up as an unklnown video card and loaded the vesa drivers. Today I changed vid cards to an older Nvidia Geforce4 440MX or FX (not sure) 64MB and anaconda loaded the generic nvidia gforce drivers.

My suggestions is for you to get your linux drivers for your vid card; reinstall and load them from the floppy using linux dd at the boot prompt after booting from CD1 or you can load them after you install on the last page of the configuration when it asks you to install additional CDs.

now on to pppoe config. Hope this helps.
