First time installing Fedora and everything went fine ... except the monitor just switches off on boot. I managed to get the login screen by randomly pressing alt-ctrl and F2 and F3 (i have no idea why, I'm a total newbie for linux). After I logged on I farted around and set up a default login after 10 secs and this seems to bypass the problem.
BUT when log off the same crap happens and this time the only thing that works is ctrl-alt-del for a shutdown.
I now have a working OS, so its not critical, but it is a little aggravating to not be able to log off.
Current specs: athlon CPU, radeon 9700 pro aiw with dual boot WinXP pro and Fedora Core 2.
It doesnt detect it, but I told it what monitor it was. However after I got this problem I put it back to the default one. Still nothing. You think the refresh rate on the logoff screen is too high or something?
Maybe you're running with your refresh rate set too high ... if your monitor can only handle 75Hz then an 85Hz signal may cause it to go for a nap (same for 100/85). I have not the foggiest idea how you set/check refresh rate in Fedora (from a shell), but that's my 2c.
May be if you can let us know the monitor brand/model, somebody might be able to help you out .. I had this problem before on non-branded monitor .. and setting to the correct horizontal sync and refresh rate fixed that.
wiraone; attempt to search U.S. F.C.C site for that device. or where ever it
was mfged at country that is. may be in archieves. I to have a couple of old
monitors(monochrome) no idea nor documents. but as long as they work on
our machines we can see and not left blind.viola.
