Is it possible to run the installer on a live system?
I would like to know if there is a way to run the Fedora installer from a live system, to install a distribution to an unmounted disk. In some cases, like no working floppy/CD, it would be easier to simply install the OS using a different host computer rather than working out how to get the installer running on the target system. Unlike some brain-dead OSes, Linux is quite tolerant of hardware changes, so it is not that critical to use the target hardware to get a working OS.
The other reason to do a 'proxy host machine' install is that you could set up OS disk images for something like VMWare, or set up a Knoppix-style version of Fedora -- which is one reason I'm interested. |
AFAIK, you could probably use QEMU and the install .iso, like you would with a live-cd
