Installing Fed3 "over" a slackware partition

Hi - I've decided to swap distros from my beloved Slackware 10.1 to the latest Fedora core... dont ask me why, I just finished my exams and have a rediculous amount of time to burn lol.

Seriously though - I would really like to try out Fedora 3 but dont have enough HDD space for a 3rd operating system (presently a dual boot with XP - urgh!) so I was thinking about installing "over" slackware. I have no problem with having to reinstall programs, drivers etc etc but I really want to keep the files in my /root/ folder. Short of just backing the folder up and completely wiping the partition (have a feeling thats gunnu be the answer) - is there any way I can just install Fed3 over the top?

Thx!

nope that is the answer. if you want to keep root's home dir you have to back it up. and slack to fc3 sounds like a step back to me.

Yeah sorta guessed that I would have to backup and re-format so thats what I've done...

Already I prefer Fedora over Slack, admittedly for some reason up2date is buggy as hell whereas swaret worked perfectly first time but still... Installing Mplayer worked perfectly first time! I had a right pain trying to get it working in slackware, and I was always thinking that things were missing etc coz slack cant do dependencies on rpms converted to tgz...

Anyway - moved to fed, will most likely stick with it for a while!
