Installing FC4 from harddrive ISO - how can you
Hello Everyone,
I want to install FC4 test 2 Is it possible to install from the 4 ISO images on my harddrive instead of burning them to CD? Thanks Graham |
I don't think so (it would be nice, though). Check the Fedora Project's web site. If it's possible, it will be there (or at Red Hat's).

Yes it is possible. Burn the first CD to a CDR (I recommend using a CD-RW). Then store the ISO files (ALL including the first CD) on a partition that is read natively by fedora (EXT2, EXT3, FAT32). Put it in the root directory or create a simple directory name (iso). And determine what partition it is (/dev/hda1, /dev/hda2, etc).
When you boot at the prompt use 'linux askmedia'. It should prompt for the partition, put the /dev/hda1 or wherever you stored them. It should read directories (iso or whatever you used). This should work. I've done it since Fedora Core 1 and it worked correctly on some Test releases I've tried. Back with FC1, RH9 and older you could do it with just 1 floppy. |
