Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

since a few months now, i'm runnig RedHat 9 on my system, and what a good feeling that is. Last week, a friend of me gave me 4 cd's with Fedora Core 2 on it. So, i tried to install it, but i'm running in to a few problems. As i said, i've been working with RH9, without any problems.
With Partition Magic 8 (running @ Windows XP SP2), i removed my ext3 partitions and rezised them. More space for linux (120GB), less space for windows (40gb). My disc looks like this:
I don't want to read/write on my windows-disc, so i don't think there should be any problem in this config. In grub i added a line to boot my windows XP, that works.
When i installed FC2, everything worked OK, i had no troubles installing the OS. I formatted my new partitions using Disc Druid, and that also worked OK. But, when i gave a reboot after the installation, it takes about 30secs to show grub, when entering linux it takes up to 5 mins to load the GUI where i have to finish my installation (create user-accounts and so on).
Does anyone now how i can run FC2 on my PC, which was runnig RH9 fine, without problems.
My promise card is originaly an onboard RAID controller, but i placed a jumper, and now it's only an ata100-controller. My onboard-IDE is an ata66 controller
