Installation errata

I'll be installing fedora soon, and would like the benefit of some of your experiences. What thing don't install by default but probably should. What things do install by default but arn't really necessary on non-networked stand alone workstation. If you had to install it over again what would you do different? Are there any online howto's for new features like yum? The Fedora website is suprisingly devoid of such things. I'll be transitioning over from
RH 7.3, how smooth is the upgrade install as compared to a clean install?
