Install went fine (seemingly), but computer stops responding on first boot

I have just tried to install Fedora Core 1 numerous times, and everytime the same thing happens. It seems to install fine, but then when I reboot for the first time, it gets to the 'interactive startup" phase of loading, and seems like the monitor loses conact with the computer and then the computer sits idle.

My system is
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
ABit NF7 motherboard (nForce2 chipset)
512 RAM
ATi Radeon 9200
Quantum Fireball 15GB Hard Drive (learning linux on this small drive before I put it on the 120GB Maxtor)
LG CD-RW Drive

Any suggestions or ideas to what might have gone wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Fedora may have misconfigured your video card. When you get to the blank console try the three fingered command:

<Ctrl> <Alt> <F3>

If this works then login as root and try editing /etc/X11/XF86Config

Be prepared. Create a LifeBoat CD.
