I need help ASAP!
I don't know what I'm doing. How do I intall fedora? I can't boot it, I don't know how to make a boot disk, please I want to break the window and wear the Hat!Please help ASAP.
all you should have to do is make sure you have the first boot device
in your BIOS set to CDROM, and pop the cd in and boot up your box ..
it should go into the installer .
When your comp is booting right at the beginning, hit the 'delete' key to enter your BIOS. Not all bioses use delete, some use 'f1' or 'esc' so check your computer manual beforehand.
In bios go to the boot section, there increase the CD drive (there is normally explanations there for how to do it) to the top of the list. Exit saving the changes to the bios.
Then when your comp boots, it SHOULD read the cd before the HD and enter the fedora core installer. It is quite easy to install, which is one of my recommendations for it. You also must partition your hard drive, but there is a partitioner with Fedora.
But FIRST, did you burn the ISO's themselves or did you burn the iso using a software to burn isos? Because an ISO is an image of a cd with info on it, not the info itself. If you burn just the iso to a cd using the thing from windows, it will not work. I would suggest to use Nero, I think they have a trial version which will work.
Also remember to burn it SLOWLY. I cannot emphasize this enough. Isos are very bitchy in my experience and do not like being burnt at high speeds. Use 4x or 8x, not 52x.
And then finally, if none of that works and you still cant boot from the cd, you can make bootdiscs in windows. In the fedora core CD1, you have a folder called bootdisks (or something of the like) and in it there are many image files. Also on this disc is a program called Raw Write, which allows you to put these image files onto a 3 ½ floppy. Do not just copy and page the image file, you MUST use the raw write to write them.
There are also readme files there, in it it will say what images you need and how to make them. This will allow you to boot from a floppy and install from the cd, or if the cd doesn’t want to install, you can install from your hard drive. I suggest installing from cd, it is much easier and in my experience, from the hard drive install did not let me install all the packages.
