I am new, and trying to figure out what to do and where.

As a newbie I have been told during the final registration step that I needed to put my user name,& activation ID somewhere, but have not found that place. I have just downloaded fedora-11-i686, to install in a computer for a friend that just purchased a used one with Win 98 on it.
Meanwhile I am dealing with trying to extradite a loved on from Nigeria at this moment, and have to check back later to see how to open that download, because I don't know what to make of the message from Microsoft saying that : Windows can not open this file: Fedora-11-i686-Live.iso
Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online and look it up automatically, or you can select it from a list. What do you want to do?
I have too many pressing things to tend to now, and will return for help later.

You need to use a CD burning program (K3b or gnomebaker on linux, CDBurnerXP Pro, Nero, Roxio, etc on Windows) to make a CD of the *.iso image. Make sure to "Create CD from Image", don't just make a data CD with the *.iso file on it.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org

Entering an activation ID sounds like the Red Hat commercial offering and not Fedora. Actually the term used sounds more like Windows. You won't need an activation code for Fedora.

By the way, please read the sticky. This forum is simply for introductions. This post would be better in Fedora or General, and may be moved by one of the assigned moderators to give your thread better exposure and allow the thread to continue in case you have follow up questions.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Fedora-Installation and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

You need an DVD image opening software like ISOBuster (check the website - http://www.isobuster.com/) to be able to open an iso file on Windows.
