GRUB options

I've installed fedora cora on my windows pc and i boot with GRUB. All woks fine. On booting, when my computer loads the grub screen, i get three options:
fedora core up 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
fodora core 2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp
dos

Both fodora core choices boot fine but what is the difference?

The first is a single-CPU kernel, and the second is a multi-CPU kernel. "up" = uni-processor, "smp" = symetric multi-processor.

If you have two or more CPUs, you will only be able to use more than one if you boot the SMP version of the kernel. If one dies, you might have trouble booting the SMP, so you have the UP as a fall-back.
