Fedora 9 or 10 installation on iMAC/intel
Hi,
For support reasons we have an iMAC on which I installed a few different operating systems (to make it as useful as possible).
In general I use rEFIt using a hybrid GPT/MBR partitioning scheme. Every linux install has it's own partition, and I just copy over the boot stuff to a general boot partition.
I have Opensuse 11, Debian 4 and Debian 5, and Mac OSX. All run absolutely fine.
Fedora, however, won't run. Most of the time the screen hangs (black), on some occasions I noticed a "disabling IRQ # 19" message, but apparently this does not work either.
Some stuff I tried:
- boot from live CD: won't boot
- boot netinst: installion hangs giving disk error (not recoverable, need to stop installation). Error not reproducable and same partition used later to install Debian 5 without any issue.
- boot install DVD
- boot install CD
- I installed Fedora 10 in VirtualBox (using Opensuse 11) and transferred the files to a physical partition: won't boot
- some kernel boot parameters (noacpi etc.): no difference
Now, I have spent so much time on this that I do not recall every detail but in general it either comes down to a system hang or a disk error on the partitions.
My question therefore is: has anybody successfully installed Fedora 9 or 10 on an iMAC? Is there something I missed? Any idea why the other distro's have no issue with this?
BTW: I need to use the i386 version (support reasons).
Kind regards
Sam
