Fedora 5 IRQ probe failed

I'm trying to install fedora 5. But just after the boot screen, no matter what options i choose (linux noprobe; linux text; linux rescue etc...) it starts giving me IRQ probe failed errors. Then after about 10 minutes the screen goes black.

I previously installed and am running Fedora 4 with no problems.

Any ideas?

I have same problem and have posted on a number of help sites. I am running Fedora 4 right now and just updated to the latest Kernel. LO and BEHOLD, I now have the same problem when booting with that Kernel!! (Luckily I can still boot up with the former Kernel) It appears, therefore, that the problem is not with Fedora Core 5 per se but with the kernel that comes with the Fedora Core 5 Boot Disk!! If we could figure out a way to boot the Fedore Core 5 disk with an older version of the kernel I think we would have the problem licked.
PS. I know it is a problem particular to certain motherboards /bios setups because I have tried it on other machines and it doesn't produce the same problem.

I am still running Fedora Core 4. When I recently updated my Kernel to the latest version and re-booted, LO and BEHOLD, I got the same IRQ mismatch problem and the kernel would not boot!! (Luckily I can still boot into my system using the previous kernel.) It appears, therefore, that it is the kernel that comes with the Fedora Core 5 boot disk that is causing the problem and it appears the problem is peculiar to only certain motherboards/bios systems. I have an Asus A7V8X Motherboard using Via KT400 chipset and AMD Athlon CPU. If I could somehow boot the Fedora Core 5 installation disk with an older kernel, I think I would have the problem licked!! Is this possible??
