fedora 14 - 15 upgrade

I've just spent a few days installing Fedora 14 and trying to get round driver issues as best as i can. I've just realised that the final release of fedora 15 is just days away. If I download the .iso image of fedora 15, will the installation take care of itself, like Windows upgrades do?
For example, will it leave my Gutenprint printer drivers unchanged and leave my wirless modem installed etc. or is this basically a fesh install in which everything has to be set up afresh?

Thanks,
tim

Hi,

Can I make a humble suggestion? Fedora is good, but if you continue with it, you'll be confronted with a ... reinstall and (lengthy) reconfig on a yearly basis. That's why I let it be, much as I liked Fedora, I learned the basics from it...

Go with a rolling release.Saves you the hassle of a re-install...

But, as I said, it is only a suggestion. Yum seems to cater for a version upgrade as this page suggests, but, the same page also suggests that it's a tricky process...

Good luck!

Thor

Using preupgrade i upgraded F13 to F14 with no reconfiguration, or reinstallation of drivers whatsoever.
BTW, F15 has not been released yet, only the beta is available.

Fedora is a fast-moving distribution with a new release every 6 months. To facilitate this, they've written excellent upgrade instructions that you can read here:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrading

I have not personally tried the DVD method. I have had excellent luck with PreUpgrade in the past (12 to 13 and 13 to 14). Waiting for a final release before I try 15.

I upgraded automatically to Fedora15 beta, without a hitch. All software worked, all preconfigured files remained correct.

The user who talked about rolling releases has to realize that one of the reasons for a one week delay in Fedora15 is to confirm, for all platforms, that a rolling release is going to work as anticipated by any user.

So, Fedora15 beta is great to get into the enjoyment of using a well designed product. The beta is as close to final as one can get.
