Question fedora 11 installation

I have most recently attempted to download fedora 11 onto my dell laptop using vista 64 bit. I used the x86 64 download seeing that I have 4 gb of memory. It began to take forever, only downloading 30% in 8 hours using bit torrent file. I have a high speed connection. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Also if I decide to go with fedora 11, is it possible to eliminate vista and keep my files? Of course I am a newbie to linux. I have finally had it with gates and his monopoly on the software industry. If anyone has suggestions for me concerning the downloading of fedora 11 please do not hesitate to reply.
Thank you

Either there aren't many seeders or your ISP may be throttling bit torrent traffic.

You could reduce the size of your NTFS partition. I'd recommend defragging it using Vista's defrag tool. You can resize the partition in Vista as well. Linux can read and write to NTFS partitions but can't repair them. It would be better to backup the files you want to restore, and restore them into a Linux partition after installing Fedora 11.

I took me about 10 hours at 50 KB/s to download Fedora x86_64, and about the same for the i686 version. This was 2 days ago. I checked the peer list during my download, the fedoraproject.org shows up as a peer, with high speed.

I do not know what your maximum speed is though.

Yes, I do believe it is possible. I am in the process of upgrading my Father's computer, and if during the install process, if Fedora detects that you are running Windows, it does give you the option.

But you have to choose either to shrink, or install Fedora in available space. If you choose to take up the whole drive, then you will not get that option.

Hope this helps,

that speed can be caused by your torrent client , what ever it is -- as you did not say -- , set to a default 10% of the network speed.
